Sunday School: The Church
Last week we addressed the different perspectives and the three marks of the Church.
This coming Lord's Day we will take a break, as the Knutson family will be meeting with the whole congregation at 9:00 a.m. (be sure to attend!). We will resume and finish the class in the following two weeks, which will include a video presentation of Christianity Explored.
Sunday School: The Church
Here are the files for the last three weeks. You can listen/download them here (4/29), here (5/13) and here (5/20). This coming Lord's Day we will continue with the marks and ministry of the Church.
See you at 9:00 sharp!
Sunday School: The Church
This coming Lord's Day we continue with our class on Ecclesiology. We will finish the section on the apostolicity and the unity of the Church. We will also allow some extended time for Q&A, so bring your questions!
The MP3 of last week's class (4/22) can be accessed here.
See you at 9:00 AM sharp!
Sunday School: The Church
Join us as we continue with our study of Ecclesiology. You can listen to and download the last two classes here (4/8) and here (4/15). This coming Lord's Day we will finish the section on the Church and the Trinity, and begin our exploration of the four definitions of the Nicene Creed: We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
See you at 9:00 AM sharp!

For those of you who asked, this class does indeed address the nature of the Church as the people of God from the Garden to the eternal state, in distinction from the Dispensationalist view. Dispensationalism has appeared on the scene recently (about 170 years ago), but it is very popular in American evangelicalism. We'll continue to address some of the issues concerning the nature of the Church, but the two classes linked above contain the bulk of the discussion of continuity/discontinuity in God's redemptive plan for his one people.

Ecclesiology: I Believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church
April 8 through May 27, 2007 (Rev. Marcelo Souza)
This eight-week class will address issues related to the Church – its marks, mission, nurture, gifts, government, structure, relation to the State, and more. What is the Church? How is it to glorify God? What distinctions need to be made, and what distortions should be corrected? What is its primary function – nurture or evangelism? We will use Edmund P. Clowney’s The Church as a textbook, as well as the Three Forms of Unity and the Westminster Standards.
During this class we will also discuss "Christianity Explored." Be sure to come and find out about a wonderful opportunity for evangelism as you invite family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc., to explore the Gospel of Mark asking three questions:
- Who is Jesus
- Why did He come?
- What does it mean to follow Him?
Within the context of a class on the nature of the Church, we will investigate the different possibilities of using Christianity Explored in our congregation.
See you next week!
For those of you who want to read ahead (a good thing!), we will be covering chapters 1-5 of Clowney's book The Church in our first session (sounds like a lot, but it's only 53 pages, i.e., the equivalent of 2 normal chapters). If you still don't have the book, get it quickly - we still have a few copies left at the bookstore.

Sunday School Class: Prayer
The audio files for our last class (3-11) have been uploaded. Click here to listen, and here to download. Next week we will finish chapter 7 and hopefully cover most of chapter 8. Bring your Book of Common Prayer, your Heidelberg Catechism, and your Bible.
Our next class will be on the Church. We will use primarily Ed Clowney's book The Church, as well as other resources we will announce later. This might be a good time to buy the book and start looking through it.
See you on the Lord's Day at 9:00 sharp.
ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee; and dost promise that when two or three are gathered together in thy Name thou wilt grant their requests: Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.
(A Prayer of St. Chrysostom - Book of Common Prayer)
