Wednesday Evening Bible Study
Join us each Wednesday evening at 7:15 for evening prayer followed by bible study at 7:30.
This summer the Reverend Marcelo Souza is teaching a class on early Church history.
Our class will cover early Church history from the birth of the Church to the time of Augustine and the first ecumenical councils. We will use the Bible to correlate Scripture with each period of Church history and the issues that were debated. How did doctrine develop? What issues did each ecumenical council address? How does the theology of the early Church affect us today? What heresies keep reappearing? What do we learn from the past so we don’t repeat the same mistakes in the future? We will use the following books during our summer study:
- Henry Chadwick, The Early Church
- J. N. D. Kelly, Early Christian Doctrines
- Jaroslav Pelikan, The Christian Tradition: A History of the Development of the Doctrine, Volume 1 : The Emergence of the Catholic Tradition (100-600)
- R. W. Southem, Western Society and the Chruch in the Middle Ages.
